Testing services in Pajulahti

The fitness testing of the three campuses in Pajulahti can be divided into three main areas: endurance

testing, strength and speed testing, and health fitness testing. The endurance testing in Pajulahti is under the responsibility of Juha Sorvisto and Ibai Mendia. Strength and speed testing are managed by Nikke Vilmi and Eero-Pakka Auvinen, and it includes attribute testing for team sports. Health fitness testing services are sold through the sales department.

Stress testing

Endurance testing at the Pajulahti campus is the responsibility of two exercise physiologists, Ju

ha Sorvisto and Ibai Mendia, and the test methods are usually maximal direct or indirect tests with lactate monitoring. Our clients are typically either athletes or competitive enthusiasts who come to gain information on suitable heart rate and endurance training levels, maximal oxygen uptake, performance efficiency, and/or carbohydrate and fat metabolism. Various endurance fitness tests are available to help improve the quality of your training. For test safety, it is important that you familiarize yourself with our health requirements before booking an appointment, as certain risk factors, symptoms, or illnesses will affect test eligibility. Contact us, and we will help you choose the test that best suits your goals.

Durability Testing Offerings

Below you will find our most popular durability testing products

, and the complete test offerings can be found in the testing price list.

Direct Maximum Oxygen Uptake Test

The test with the help of breath gas measurement is the only test for accurately

determining the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). The test also identifies thresholds (aerobic and anaerobic threshold) that describe endurance performance, along with suitable training heart rate zones based on them.

For whom? Athletes and competitive fitness enthusiasts who train purpose

fully.

How? The test is performed based on the sport background either by running

, Nordic walking, or cycling either on a cycle ergometer or on your own bike attached to our trainer (bike-trainer compatibility to be confirmed at booking). The workload or speed is increased in 3-minute stages until exhaustion. During the test, changes in heart rate and breath gas responses are recorded and monitored. A blood sample is taken from the fingertip between each 3-minute load to determine lactate concentration and ultimately to interpret the aerobic and anaerobic threshold. Through changes in breath gases (breath by breath), metabolic changes in breathing responses, known as ventilation thresholds, can also be determined. The overall duration of the test itself is about 20–30 minutes. Contact us if the "mixing chamber" method interests you instead of "breath by breath" measurement.

>You will receive feedback! In addition to the test, the service includes verbal and written test feedback, which explains maximal oxygen uptake, maximum performance, levels of aerobic and anaerobic thresholds (speed/power/performance), and endurance training heart rate zones. During the verbal feedback, endurance-related concepts are reviewed, and you get tips on how to apply the results to your training.

Threshold test in the testing laboratory

Threshold Test uses the same load protocol as the direct test but is conducted

without measuring respiratory gases. The primary purpose of the test is to determine the thresholds (aerobic and anaerobic) that describe endurance performance and the appropriate heart rate zones for training based on these thresholds.

For whom? It is suitable for athletes

and competitive fitness enthusiasts who train with specific goals. Also for fitness enthusiasts who want to determine their threshold levels. The application possibilities are extensive. The test is suitable for runners, skiers, swimmers, cyclists, triathletes, or other individuals interested in their endurance fitness!

How? The threshold test can be performed by swimming in a swimming

pool, cycling on a bicycle ergometer at a test station, or running / Nordic walking on a treadmill. Regardless of the test method, the basic principle in all threshold tests is the same: The intensity/speed of the test performance is increased progressively until exhaustion. A blood sample is taken from the fingertip at regular intervals during the test, from which the lactate concentration is analyzed. The heart rate during the test is recorded with a heart rate monitor. Based on the data on intensity/speed/workload, lactate, and heart rate, heart rate limits and threshold speeds and intensities for exercise are determined.

You get feedback! In addition to the test, the

service includes oral and written test feedback, which explains the maximum performance, the levels of aerobic and anaerobic thresholds (speed/intensity/performance), and endurance training heart rate zones. Concepts related to endurance are reviewed in the feedback, and you receive tips on how to apply the results to your training.

Field tests for groups: Running level test and swimming test

LEVEL TEST AT THE PAJULAHTI HALL RUNNING TRACK

For whom?  Endurance

and fitness runners who have goals in running or events like orienteering. A level test is a great way to determine suitable training levels for running and to track the development of endurance areas. strong>The test is intended for groups and may also include participants outside the group. The level test examines 2 – 6 people simultaneously, and multiple test groups can be scheduled consecutively. So, you are welcome to come as a larger group!

How? The test is run

on the indoor track at Pajulahti Hall with a light pacer. 5-8 x 1000 meters progressively, with a lactate sample taken from the fingertip between intervals. The speeds are adjusted according to the participant's fitness level. Heart rate and running times during the test are recorded on a heart rate monitor. Heart rate zones and threshold speeds are determined based on running speeds, lactate, and heart rate data to support running training.

You will receive feedback! The service

includes written test feedback indicating aerobic and anaerobic thresholds as speeds, heart rate levels for endurance training, and theoretical maximum oxygen uptake (only for running).-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="7bf72871-9a43-4ab7-b4a3-9ea468ebe84d" data-align="center">

SWIMMING TEST IN THE POOL

In the swimming tests

at least 2 participants are tested, taking place at Pajulahti's 25m swimming pool, swimming 6-10 x 100/200 meters with increasing speed. A lactate sample is taken from the fingertip between sets, and stroke frequency and length are also determined. The swimming test is especially aimed at competitive swimmers, as the challenge of the test can be good speed awareness and the ability to swim consistently at various speeds. NEW! The Finis Tempo Trainer Pro device is used to assist with pacing, providing audio signals under the cap at turns.

You will receive

feedback! The service includes written test feedback indicating aerobic and anaerobic thresholds as speeds, heart rate levels for endurance training, and theoretical maximum oxygen uptake (only for running).

Strength and speed testing

Strength and speed testing is handled by Nikke Vilmi and Eero-Pekka Auvinen. We serve athletes from

various sports by offering, among other things, competition analysis, strength tests (jump tests with force plates, power measurements in barbell movements, isometric strength), speed tests with light gates, stride analysis with a light mat, and anaerobic performance tests with a light rabbit. >For team sports characteristic testing we help build the best and most practical testing package from our selection. For example, the price of football test packages starts at 400€ per team, but the price depends on the selected test package and team size. Depending on the contents of the package, the tests are conducted by Nikke, Eero-Pekka, our endurance testing team, and/or our physical education students. For testing strength and speed characteristics, Pajulahti offers various equipment, enabling quality measurement of these attributes.-uuid="897a708f-870f-4b8f-9a06-fbd809b9199a" data-align="center">

Anaerobic Performance Tests

Anaerobic performance tests refer to tests such

as the MART test or interval tests (e.g. 3 x 3 x 300 m), which can describe the functional capacity of endurance athletes' neuromuscular systems and the anaerobic capacity, power, and efficiency of speed-endurance athletes.

Step Analysis

The step analysis test is suitable

for sprinters, endurance runners, long jumpers, and triple jumpers as a sport-specific test. In step analysis, sensors and light mats measure, in addition to running speed, parameters such as step length and frequency, contact and flight time, as well as potential side differences.

Competition

Analyses

We offer technical analysis of track and field events from competitions with

high-speed cameras and expert commentary.

Strength Tests

We offer various

strength tests such as jump tests with force plates, power measurements in barbell movements, or measurements of isometric strength.
