Unique opportunity
The camp offers young players a unique opportunity to develop to the top of the sport. The program has included diverse exercises, expert lectures, and physical coaching led by professionals from the Sports Institute of Three Campuses.
Anne Rikala, an expert in sports at the Sports Institute of Three Campuses, says that this is already the fourth academic year they've been involved in the content for the path to becoming a ringette athlete.
– This Development camp was organized in collaboration with the Ringette Association and was attended by 55 players under 18 from Finland and Canada. The camp started last Sunday and culminates this weekend in the ringette World Championships, Rikala says.
Laying the foundation for future success
The atmosphere at the camp is enthusiastic and international. The joint efforts of the Finnish and Canadian teams create a foundation for future success and strengthen the sport’s international community.
– The experts from the Sports Institute of Three Campuses have coached athletes at the camp with various lectures and physical exercises. The training has included themes such as mental coaching, sports, and recovery. Everything has been done strongly in a practical manner, Rikala emphasizes.
– The content has been planned together with the head coach of the U18 ringette national team, Janne Ahoniemi. This is a great vote of confidence in our expertise.
The competition week culminates in finals
The ringette World Championship week culminates at Lahti’s Wemasto Arena on November 8–9, when reigning world champions Finland and Canada face each other in a revenge-minded super weekend.
The last time Finland celebrated double gold was in Espoo in 2022, and the U21 national team brought home the brightest medals from Calgary in 2023. Now both teams are again on home ground – expect tight and thrilling matches, which should not be missed. The next time the World Championships will be held in Finland is only in the 2030s.
